Chasing the dreams: Chapter 3

My Erasmus exchange journey to Spain: Time to kick everyday life on.

Adjusting to the rhythm of life in Spain was surprisingly easy for me. I think my previous experiences traveling and living abroad helped a lot. The work hours are relaxed with no early morning rush and even include a siesta for lunch and a possible nap. Although the workday could be longer than my previous school hours in Finland, it was a welcomed change. The pace of life just feels right here.

After the first week of getting to know the workplace and Granada, work picked up quickly at Biomimicry Granada. Their focus on teaching and exploring how to find sustainable solutions inspired by nature was truly fascinating. I was brought on board to assist with their visual publications, social media presence, marketing efforts, and website. Luckily, I arrived at the perfect time as I was able to get involved in organizing their upcoming workshop, "Change Makers". I felt fortunate to be a part of such an innovative and inspiring team.

Granada offers some beautiful parks to enjoy the nature right at the heart of the city.

The "Change Makers" workshop aims at bringing together professionals and students to discuss sustainable practices and how nature can inspire more sustainable solutions. I had the opportunity to assist in the preparation and execution of the workshop, which was a good learning experience for me. It was inspiring to be a part of a group of people who are passionate about making a positive impact on the world.

One of my biggest tasks at the beginning in Biomimicry Granada was updating the workbook for their course. It was a great starting point for me and allowed me to take on bigger tasks. The project involved creating new content, editing existing material, and visually polishing the final product. It turned into a satisfying collaboration with my colleagues, and I'm proud of the final result.

After a month of settling in, the big event finally arrived: a long weekend hosting the biomimicry workshop with the Granada team. As the designated photographer, I was responsible for capturing every moment of the event, from the inspiring keynote speeches to the hands-on workshops and group discussions. It was an incredible opportunity to hone my photography skills and learn more about biomimicry. The experience gave me a deeper understanding of the work that Biomimicry Granada does and left me feeling inspired and motivated.

The level of engagement and enthusiasm that the attendees brought to the workshop was truly impressive. I was amazed by their eagerness to learn and share their own experiences, and it was heartening to see how much everyone valued nature. The pure delight that the attendees had towards nature was infectious, and it left a lasting impression on me. The entire experience was unforgettable and a testament to the power of nature-inspired thinking.

The workshop included a day spent learning about the production of olive oil at an olive mill. Some exercises focused on learning about the local biodiversity and the Sierra Nevada nature reserve.
